Areas of experience required | The purpose of the Illustrator is to communicate visually through pictures utilizing experienced design skills. The work of the illustrator is to inform, persuade or entertain an intended audience, adjusting the mood and style of images accordingly. The Illustration artists produce original artwork by hand drawing and uses other relevant tools for publication purposes. Work in advertising and publishing, developing concepts and selecting designs that appear in printed or digital media. The illustration artist must have artistic and technical skills, including a talent for drawing and an understanding of the tools and mediums involved in cartooning. These tools include not only paper and pencil, but also computers and animation software. Cartoonists must also be adept at communicating with wit and humour, because in addition to being entertainment, This position is based in Dili, with possible travel required to conduct field activities such as interviews, field-testing, etc. Attaching the previous work is advantage! |

INTRODUCTION:
CARE is an international development and humanitarian aid organization fighting global poverty, with a special focus on working with women and girls to bring lasting change to their communities. CARE’s long term program will focus on women and girls in rural disadvantage areas with four priority areas: SRM Health and Rights, Women’s Economic Empowerment, Women’s Voice and Education.
POSITION SUMMARY:

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop innovative and creative illustration and designs for the Lafaek Magazine to distribute to the Communities;
· Design illustrations/cartoon in a creative manner for contents in the magazines according to the articles topic, including health, agriculture, micro-finance, education, short stories, and any content regarding to CITL LTP, etc;
· Design illustration for sponsored-contents in the Lafaek magazines;
· Ensure illustration designs are completed according to plan and within deadlines;
· Liaise with the Production team to ensure the illustration designs are accurate and modify as required;
· Assist the team in creating games, for each edition of the magazines;
· Make necessary revisions to the illustrations based on the feedback;
· Ensure that each design, once finalised, is accurately and securely filed in the appropriate folders;
· Ensure that the illustration team produces communication materials that is high quality and base on CARE LTP and inclusive.
· Advise on and guide CARE’s compliance with style guidelines, relevant legislation, including CITL‘s Child Protection Policy and overall in CITL policy;
· Attend and participate in knowledge sharing sessions, production team meetings and all trainings; and
· Assist in the design of public relation materials Lafaek and CARE Timor Leste. This includes the Lafaek Facebook page, Lafaek website and any other support as required.
· Create a filling system of all illustrations for the latest edition of the Lafaek magazine on external hard drive, labelled and stored in appropriate filling ;
· Conduct surveys for the children’s magazine in the worldwide as a reference, in order to enrich and strengthen the quality of the Lafaek Magazines.
· Liaise with the Graphic Design Team and Communication Team to provide further support in the content layout for magazines and online platform.
· Collaborate with Senior Illustrator and DPM for publication and extension activities in preparing the plans to develop animation for Lafaek Project.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
· To proactively participate in the APPA process including the annual appraisal, midyear review and regular 1:1 meetings, ensuring that the APPA process (including the paperwork) is an integral component of Annual Work Plans and activities
· Engage in emergency preparedness, assist in any emergency response as required;
· Promote a safe and secure work environment; foster a culture of safety and security awareness and consistently follow all CARE safety and security policies, procedures and directives; and
· Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to gender equality, diversity and child protection.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
· 3-4 year of experience working as illustrator in print or digital media. Know and have a basic skill in the artistic mind (draw human and animal anatomically and draw any object shape).
· Ability to adapt his/her own character’ style to align with characters in Lafaek magazines.
· Ability to use graphic design software such as creative suits package; adobe illustrator, Photoshop and other software.
· Willingness to work as a team in the production team and support in the production process.
· Ability to work independently, have attention to details.
· Demonstrated interpersonal skills including the ability to work with different communities;
· Excellent communication skills in Tetum;
· Demonstrated high level time management skills, including the ability to plan and manage workflows and balance competing priorities to ensure timely processing to meet deadlines in a complex environment;
· Demonstrated ability to take direction and to work as part of a team;
· A willingness to learn about CARE, gender equality and women’s empowerment activities; and
· Intermediate (very good) in design program with knowledge in all package adobe design program, Corel draw, Microsoft Word and Excel and all relevant program design for electronic illustration are advantage.
· Willingness and capacity to travel out to the fields offices when required.
